Q. HOW DO I CLEAN MY ZN SERIES PADDLE?
A. Your ZN series paddle has been coated with a special lacquer specifically designed for brass. Please do not use any chemicals or liquids on the brass finish. A "dusting brush" with soft bristles is all you need to clean the key. Simply dust off the key. A brush without any metal parts is recommended to prevent the metal from scratching the key. I offer the brush seen in the photo for $5.00. This must be ordered with the key to save shipping charges.
Q. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN THE CONTACTS?
A. To clean the contacts, use a piece of unlined paper. I use unlined note card stock cut into to small strips. As shown in the photo, back off the contact screw, slide the paper past the contact about 1 inch. Then snug up the contact screw until there is a very slight drag between the contact screw and the contact itself. You should feel the paper slide smoothly through the contacts as you pull. Do not tighten too tight as to cause the paper to rip.
Do not file or use chemicals on the contact points.
Q. WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR LEVER ARM TENSION ADJUSTMENT?
A. The set of screws closest to the fingerpieces are the magnetic tension adjustments for each lever arm respectively.
Screwing in ( clockwise) the magnet screws increases the tension, increasing the force necessary to actuate the lever arm.
Screwing out ( counterclockwise) the magnet screws decrease the tension, decreasing the forces necessary to actuate the lever arm.
Q. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CONTACT SCREW ADJUSTMENT?
A. The contact screws are adjust on the fly- no tools or locking nuts needed. Simply turn in or out as needed. If you want the contact screws to turn easier, slightly loosen the set screws with a 5/64" hex driver. This put less pressure on the nylon bearing ball underneath the set screw. If you like close contact spacing, it is better to leave the contact screws on the tighter side.
Q. ARE THERE ANY MORE ADJUSTMENTS ON THE KEY THAT I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT?
A. No, the only adjustments are for magnetic tension and contact screws as reviewed above.
Q. WHAT SIZE HEX DRIVERS DO I NEED TO REMOVE THE FINGEPIECES?
A. The appropriate size hex drivers, commonly called allen wrenches, are .050" for the smallest screw and 5/64" for the larger screw.
I sell kit number FPK-1, which includes both hex drivers and an extra set of screws in case one is lost in the removal process for $4.50.
Q. CAN I PURCHASE AN EXTRA SET OF FINGEPIECES?
A. Yes, a pair a fingerpieces can be purchased for $15. You have the choice of colors as shown on the Fingerpiece link on this website. It may be wise to purchase kit, FPK-1, at the same time to eliminate the hassle of chasing down the proper size tools.
Please note that the ZN-SLR and ZN-SL with the single fingerpiece are only available in black fingerpiece only.
